We are looking for women age 21 and older to take part in a study of breast cancer survivors who have lymphedema. This study does not involve medication. It will involve completing 4 brief writing assignments spread out over 2 weeks and follow up questionnaires to evaluate the impact of the writing assignments at infrequent intervals over 6 months. You will be paid up to $115.00 for your time completing the writing assignments and follow-ups. For more information please call our research office at (615) 322-8699.

A national non-profit will host a fly-fishing retreat for breast cancer survivors in Humphreys County, about an hour away from Nashville.

Need to add notes from this past week with the TCCCC and Networking and the arts exhibition

Need to email the guy from the arts event to say I thought it was very good and important for a new member of the community like me.

From the question they asked at the Summit-time of managing the social media is also important. This is an example of having time to take on more, and the time projects or jobs take to complete, or percent effort devoted.

The Daily News Journal talks with Melanie Cavender, coordinator on the Rutherford County YMCA's After Breast Cancer program in Murfreesboro, TN:

Cavender is the coordinator for the local After Breast Cancer Program at the Rutherford County YMCA in Murfreesboro.

Cavender, also a breast cancer survivor, knows one of the after-effects of breast cancer treatments is not being able to lift your arms after surgery and not knowing what to do about it.

So when women who have gone through the program can reach items on a high shelf, or raise their arm to wave at a friend across the room, that's progress.

Nashville musician Melissa DuVall recently offered her voice to a song written as a tribute to a breast cancer survivor in Iowa:

After the lyrics were written, Karen Multer went about hiring a singer. She started in Nashville, seeking someone who sounds like Martina McBride and would not be afraid to give the song both a country and an inspirational flavor.

Enter Melissa DuVall, who has a strong, powerful, ballad-type talent. “I heard maybe 15 seconds of her voice, and I yelled to Steve, ‘That’s the one!’ ” Karen Multer said.

The song was recorded in May, and Karen Multer gave it to Michelle Juehring on her birthday, Sept. 25. It is now available to be downloaded from the Web at giveitup.info.

The lyrics and the tune are meant to be hopeful and inspirational, Karen Multer said. “There are enough sad songs out there. This song is about strength and hope, which is what Michelle is to me.”
