Nikki Peterson is leaving on a jet plane today, for an adventure that may bring a national crown back home to Clarksville.
Last month, Peterson, 27, was crowned Mrs. Tennessee United States. Today, she flies to Las Vegas, where she will compete in the Mrs. United States pageant preliminaries on Wednesday and finals on Thursday.
Peterson, who is the special events coordinator for Austin Peay State University, was interested in pageants well before she married her husband, Jake, assistant baseball coach at APSU, two years ago.

In addition to bringing recognition to Clarksville, Peterson's pageant path raises money for the Kay Yow Women's Basketball Association Cancer Fund, which got a boost last week from a donation by her local sponsor, Legends Bank.
"It's a huge opportunity to bring awareness to cancer and get donations," Jake Peterson said. "She has an opportunity to touch someone's life she may not have touched without this title."
