$10,000 Raised For Girl Scout With CancerFresh off her radiation treatment, 9-year-old Bishop Mikaelian was irritable and upset. Twenty minutes later, with the help of some ice cream, she opened up.
Over the last few months, Bishop has been through a whole lot.
"She went to bed like normal, and the next day, she went to school. (I) got a call at work and was told that she had collapsed," said Allison Mikaelian, Bishop's mother.
Tests revealed Bishop had a tumor on her brain stem. Doctors tried to remove it but stopped the surgery because it was too risky. Soon after, results from a biopsy brought even more bad news.
"Fifteen days later, after her surgery, is when we found out it was cancerous," Mikaelian said.
That same day, Mikaelian got an unexpected call from work: She was one of several people being laid off at a real estate company. In a way, she said, it was a wake-up call.
