It felt like the flu.
It was early in 2005 and Jim Asker's stomach hurt. His face felt weird, too.
The Nashville Web site editor had just run the Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans and something wasn't right.
Little did he know deadly tumors were clinging to his stomach. The cancer had metastasized to his right cheek.
This was the beginning of Asker's journey, a four-year process of staring down death, chemotherapy, dropping from 200 pounds to 155, and the constant desire to run again.
Asker, 52, is winning his battle. He is in remission and will take part in the Country Music Marathon's half marathon on April 25.
