Scott Hamilton shares about cancer, skating, family, and living in Nashville

If he were writing a personal ad, a close friend of Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton asked, what would it say?

"Short, bald, half-neutered, chemo-radiated, surgically repaired male figure skater of unknown ethnic origin seeks fertile woman to laugh and share my odd hobby of life-threatening illnesses," the Nashville-area resident responded. "Any takers?"

The ad is a joke — Hamilton is happily married to wife Tracie, with whom he shares two young sons, Aidan and Maxx. But the caption does provide a window into the life (and sense of humor) of the 50-year-old four-time world champion figure skater.

"Life presents a lot of things, and it's how we respond to them that defines who we are," said Hamilton, who has battled everything from an early childhood "mystery illness" that stunted his growth to testicular cancer and a brain tumor that cost him his pituitary gland.
