Five reasons to be screened for prostate cancer

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Baptist Hospital suggests five reasons to be screened for prostate cancer:

1. Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer.
2. Prostate cancer will touch the lives of one in six men.
3. This year, more than 186,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and nearly 27,000 men will die from the disease.
4. African Americans or those who have a family history of prostate cancer are at higher risk for developing the disease.
5. When prostate cancer is caught early there is a higher chance of long-term survival.
