I am writing today with a special invitation. As you may know, the Entertainment Industry Foundation has launched a movement that issues a call to the nation to "Stand Up 2 Cancer." This campaign will be highlighted by an hour-long television special to be aired simultaneously by CBS, NBC and ABC on Sept. 5.

Nowhere is the need to stand up to cancer more urgent than right here in Tennessee, where death rates due to cancer are among the highest. Every hour, we lose one of our Tennessee neighbors to cancer.

In support of Stand Up 2 Cancer, the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center has set up a special interactive website, www.standuptocancertn.com .

This site is intended to provide a forum for conversation and connection. It includes information about how you can learn more about standing up to cancer and getting involved in our community. It offers opportunity to share stories, ideas and suggestions. And it's a gateway to other resources, including the national Stand Up 2 Cancer Web site and to CanConnect, a brand new online cancer connection community for survivors, families, caregivers, researchers, and health professionals.

We hope you'll take a moment to visit the site and let your voice be heard. Each page includes an easy-to-use comments section where you can add your story and suggest other resources and opportunities that we may have inadvertently overlooked.
